Scapenation Mini-Games

Posted on Sep 29.09

Over the next few days and weeks, I’m going to post about my experiences working on ScapeNation.com, the tween-based social virtual network @RedTettemer built alongside a variety of partners, most notably Alpha51, for Tween Brands, Inc. Documenting this 16 month project, from RFP to post-launch updates is long overdue.

It’s overwhelming the sophistication and detail we all were involved in over the course of the project, which is what makes it so difficult to sit down and write about it.  We managed relationships with vendors on 5 different continents representing an even greater number of timezones.  I’ll start by detailing each of the mini-games we built for the virtual world. Then I’ll talk about avatars and how we approached a Microtransation model within our virtual economy. Finally, I’ll discuss some of the techniques we used for analytics, moderation, and establishing virtual wealth.

Feel free to use the comments to post questions or topic requests. I’d love to hear thoughts on the subject from which I’ve become so deeply entrenched.
