Summer 2010 Wrap-up

Posted on Sep 07.10

I hate starting posts with, “It’s been a while since I’ve last posted.” But it has been a while, and rightly so. I’ve been fortunate to have an incredibly busy summer, both in life and with my new self-employed status.

To start the summer, I worked with Area Code on an upcoming Facebook title for one of their clients. While I can’t say much about the title since it has yet to launch, I will say that their team is everything you’ve heard and more. Because of their set-up, I was able to work closely with them while sitting 200 miles away. I left the project with a blueprint on how to work remotely with NYC teams and I hope our paths cross again.

Next, a group I’m working with launched our product, Atomic Greetings. Our goal is ambitious, to reinvent the notion of greeting cards by adding a super-slick way to incorporate audio and video into every card. Check it out the demo video at atomicgreetings.com. I programed the recording and playback applications using Adobe Flash, QR code and Augmented Reality technology, and a whole lot of secret hot sauce. We’re currently looking to partner with organizations that seek a fun new way to reach their audience. If that’s you, get in touch.

From July to August, I took part in DreamIt Ventures working with a start-up focused on social gaming called Tembo Studio. The DeamIt program hosts 10-15 start-ups each summer with an early round of capital, office space, and a curriculum of speakers, workshops, and handshakes to move each team from concept to product. At the end of the summer, the groups presents to a room of venture capitalists and press in the hope of gaining the legs each needs to continue to work on their product. Check out the program and press on this year’s graduating class.

Lastly, I launched a Facebook application for FlixFling, a streaming video service that lets you rent or purchase videos and play them across a number of devices and platforms. FlixFling currently supports all major browsers with their main site as well as facebook, the iPad, and Android devices. They’re building a massive library of titles, adding new movies and shows daily, and their monthly subscription gives you unlimited access to everything. Help pass along the word – accept the app on Facebook and share it with your friends.

Moving into the Fall, I’ll be taking some time off in October to get married and travel in Spain. I’ll be back in November taking on projects and continuing my push to launch my first independent game title. I’ve already received a couple press inquiries as to what that title will be. I’m not revealing anything until November, so those interested please contact me then. And as always, stay tuned.
